Remote Counselling via Skype (Alberta)

Starting in January, 2016 I will be pleased to offer Skype-based psychological services to clients within the province of Alberta. In particular, I would like to offer this service to clients who regularly travel between Fort McMurray and Edmonton.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this for everyone?

Skype-based services are not suitable for certain clients. Before therapy begins, I will assess your needs and advise you if I can work with you via Skype.

Is Skype private?

No electronic communication is absolutely secure. However, Skype uses a type of 256-bit encryption called AES that offers a good level of security, certainly much more than a standard phone call. The Canadian Psychological Association asks that we use technologies that are reasonably available, and that protect clients’ privacy. Skype is currently the best fit.

How experienced are you with providing this service?

In addition to being a fully qualified counsellor, I have a professional background in information technology and have provided remote personal services globally for fifteen years.

Can I still claim for the cost of the service through insurance?

Yes, as long as your insurance covers psychological services.
