Motor Vehicle Accidents

Are you a BC resident? Have you recently experienced a motor vehicle accident or car crash? Psychological assessment and therapy can support you in achieving mental wellness and regaining a sense of control in your life.

If you have been in an accident and have an open claim with ICBC, and have either a claim number, or are already working with a lawyer, you are eligible for psychological support funding for counselling therapy.

Dealing with the aftermath of a car accident can be challenging and confusing. Aside from any physical injuries that you or your loved ones may have experienced from the accident, there may be other changes you notice, such as:

  • Altered mood state (e.g. feeling emotionally low, anxious, irritable, etc.)
  • Difficulty with concentration, focus and memory
  • Increase in stress
  • Following an accident, these experiences are normal. However, they may have significant impact on your mental health and your ability to achieve quality of life.

How can therapy help?

Through assessment and therapy with a registered psychologist, you can gain support towards achieving mental wellness and regaining a sense of control in your life through:

  • Helping you identify the changes and challenges you are experiencing
  • Advocating for your identified needs,
  • Providing strategies to help you positively manage the changes and challenges, and
  • Supporting you towards your goals

Are you eligible for publicly funded therapy in British Columbia?

As of April 1st 2019, ICBC will reimburse the cost of assessment and up to 12 sessions of psychological therapy in the 12 weeks following a motor vehicle accident. No pre-approval is necessary, however it is important to begin the process as soon as possible after the accident.

Ready to get started?

The best way is to set up a confidential free consultation by phone at a time that is convenient for you. I will explain the assessment and therapy process from there, but basically you should be able to get started within a week or less.
